IEETeL 2014: 5th International Workshop on Interactive Environments and Emerging Technologies for eLearning

21 Octobre 2013

eLearning is a dynamic research area with possibilities in all areas of the educational process. Researchers seek to broaden the current field of knowledge while investigating exciting perspectives for the future. The 5th International workshop on Interactive Environments and Emerging Technologies for eLearning (IEETeL 2014) will bring to light new research on innovative teaching practices and meaningful learning experiences.

The aim of IEETeL2014 is to connect researchers, educators and technology experts giving them an opportunity to share and discuss new solutions, trends and realizations of eLearning environments and the adoption of emerging technologies in educational settings. The workshop will draw out the challenging problems in information gathering, processing and usage; development of web-based and mobile services; and building intelligent and social-oriented applications in support of flexible, personalized, adaptable, in-demand learning.

IEETel 2014 will take place in conjunction with the 8th International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems (CISIS 2014).

Horizon Report 2013).

Guide to designing innovative classroom activities

02 Octobre 2013

Innovations in education provide teachers with plenty of inspiring ideas, but how can teachers effectively implement these ideas in the classroom? The Edukata Learning Activity Design Toolkit sets out a step-by-step design process for teachers to effectively adapt new practices to suit their specific needs.

There is a constant stream of innovations in education, particularly in the technological realm. How can students benefit from Smartboards, flipped classrooms, wikis, or other groundbreaking tools and practices? What works in one classroom might not work in another. Teachers need to be able to draw on new ideas and design learning activities that work for their students in their specific context.

Edukata is a toolkit for educators. It consists of a design methodology that has been empirically tested and shown to be effective. Learning activites designed using the Edukata process have been piloted in 17 European countries and in over 2000 classrooms. In the pilots Edukata was found to positively impact teaching, learning and attainment and to foster 21st century skills.

Edukata was first developed  within the Innovative Technologies for an Engaging Classroom (iTEC) project, co-funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme. The design methodology was developed by the Learning Environments Research Group in Aalto University, Finland. The Edukata toolkit is available in PDF format and more information is available on the Edukata website

UNESCO Working Paper Series on Mobile Learning

16 Janvier 2013

This Working Paper Series scans the globe to illuminate the ways in which mobile technologies can be used to support the United Nations Education for All Goals; respond to the challenges of particular educational contexts; supplement and enrich formal schooling; and make learning more accessible, equitable, personalized and flexible for students everywhere.

Today there are over 5.9 billion mobile phone subscriptions worldwide, and for every one person who accesses the internet from a computer to do so from a mobile device. Given the ubiquity and rapidly expanding functionality of mobile technologies, UNESCO is enthusiastic about their potential to improve and facilitate learning, particularly in communities where educational opportunities are scarce

The subjects covered by these working paper series include Illustrative initiatives and policy implications, Exploring the potential of mobile technologies to support teachers and improve practice, and Key issues to consider and implications for policy makers and planners.

ReFlex is a tool for learners to record 60-second audio-visual clips of their personal learning experiences,  store them on a timeline and share them with teachers, peers and parents.

All recordings by one learner are stored on a personal timeline and are accessible for later review. In addition to the present, learners may also create “time capsule” recordings for the future. Time capsules can only be opened when their set date is reached, and can be used as statements of learning objectives. From the entire pool of recordings, learners can mark important clips by highlighting them. The best way to get an idea of it is to try it.
