The 4th International Workshop “Teaching Robotics & Teaching with Robotics” (TRTWR) and the International Conference “Robotics in Education” (RiE) joined forces in 2014. The joint event took place on 18 July 2014 and the full proceedings are now openly available online.
TRTWR and RiE have a history of previous successful editions which witnesses the continuously growing interest in educational robotics in Europe and world-wide. Several efforts and tools developed recently to integrate robotics in tertiary and school education, mainly in science and technology subjects, were presented in the 2014 edition of the workshop and are reported in the workshop proceedings. The papers present results from robotics projects developed in primary and secondary classes, clubs, camps and competitions. Others examine robotics as a learning tool to support educational transformation, computational thinking, evolution of design ideas, creativity and innovation in education. The conference proceedings include an introduction by the conference chairs, nineteen full-length papers and five short papers (posters). Here is a sample of the conference papers:
- Robotics as a Learning Tool for Educational Transformation by Amy Eguchi
- Evaluating the impact of robotics in education on pupils' skills and attitudes by Martin Kandlhofer and Gerald Steinbauer
- Education with micro-robots and innovation in education by Paola Mengoli and Margherita Russo
- Mendieta: low cost platform for educational robotics by Gonzalo Zabala, Ricardo Moran, Gabriel Pérez, Sebastián Blanco, Matías Teragni
